How Toxic Are Your House Cleaning Products?

Hi and welcome to Houston Organic Home Cleaning Service. Today, we will be touching on four extremely toxic home cleaning products and why we do not use them in our home and would never think of using them in your home. According to a recent peer reviewed study by Environmental Working Group, more than 30 cleaning products, including multipurpose cleaners, glass cleaners, and air fresheners found to release hundreds of hazardous volatile organic compounds when used.

The study also found that while these hazardous volatile organic compounds affects the quality of the air both indoors and out, they contaminate your indoor air as much as 10 times more, and can emit VOCs for days, weeks or even months.

  1.  Question, did you know that the chemicals in all purpose cleaners may include ammonia, ethylene glycol monobutyl acetate, sodium hypochlorite or trisodium phosphate, that can irritate your skin, eyes, nose and throat? We would never use this product.

  2. What about antibacterial cleaners, did you know they usually contain surfactant, and pesticide. Did you also know that the pesticides used are quaternary ammonium or phenolic chemicals, that can irritate your eyes and burn your skin and throat? We would also never use this product. Ever.

  3. How about oven cleaners? The basic ingredient in oven cleaners is lye, consisting of either sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide. Lye is extremely corrosive. It can burn your skin, your eyes and cause severe tissue damage. Another one we would never think of using.

  4. Household bleach contain chemical sodium hypochlorite. Chlorine bleach can irritate your skin, eyes, nose and throat. There is never a need for us to ever use this product.

Most people use these products inside their homes without giving it a thought. The combination of toxic fumes that emit from these products is enough to make any ill and with regular usage, the damage can be catastrophic. Your healthy and your home matters to us.
